“Do you paint portraits?” I get this question

“Do you paint portraits?”
I get this question a lot. Short answer, “no, but yes”. What I mean by that is that my portraits are about the essence of the person and the best way for me to show that through my art is not showing their entire face.
It may sound strange but I feel there is so much more life to a portrait when you catch them in their happy place.

Real time painting video. In the past, I have shared a lot more Timelapse videos of my painting process than have Real-time videos.
I am a slow painter. I get caught up in tiny details. Even in my abstract art.
I recently told someone that I didn’t show my process because I don’t paint in order.
I thought, “who would have the patience to sit and watch me paint in real time?”
Timelapse is very cool! Satisfyingly so because you don’t have to wait to watch it “become”.
Have you ever watched a Timelapse of a flower blooming or a seed growing? We all love those because who has the time to sit and watch the entire process in real time?
However, what Timelapse remove is that there are all long pauses of thought. It diminishes how laborious intensive some of my paintings are and how I actually thrive there.
The most obvious, of course, it removes the many, many hours of work that is put into each one of my pieces.
In effect, is giving potential clients an unrealistic expectation of how long their painting should take.
I would love to hear your thoughts as a fellow artist or a potential client.

I am so damn proud of this piece! I love all the positive reactions people give me when they come into my home and see it in person.
I love that!
BUT...
What makes me so proud and puts this piece at the top of the list of my most favorite painting is because Taylor painted it with men and was a part of the entire process.
One thing you may have noticed about my paintings is how much texture I use. I LOVE texture! Why?
Taylor taught me long ago that textures can be soothing.
I watched Taylor as he was telling someone about it. His words were coming out so smoothly and while he talked, his hands were running over the chaotic surface of the painting.
I can't wait to paint another one with him.

From my "Coloring Outside the Lines" collection, which is my expression of being an autism mom. About being Taylor's mom so, it was only fitting that he join me in painting the largest piece.
