“Do you paint portraits?”
I get this question a lot. Short answer, “no, but yes”. What I mean by that is that my portraits are about the essence of the person and the best way for me to show that through my art is not showing their entire face.
It may sound strange but I feel there is so much more life to a portrait when you catch them in their happy place.

Real time painting video. In the past, I have shar

Real time painting video. In the past, I have shared a lot more Timelapse videos of my painting process than have Real-time videos.
I am a slow painter. I get caught up in tiny details. Even in my abstract art.
I recently told someone that I didn’t show my process because I don’t paint in order.
I thought, “who would have the patience to sit and watch me paint in real time?”
Timelapse is very cool! Satisfyingly so because you don’t have to wait to watch it “become”.
Have you ever watched a Timelapse of a flower blooming or a seed growing? We all love those because who has the time to sit and watch the entire process in real time?
However, what Timelapse remove is that there are all long pauses of thought. It diminishes how laborious intensive some of my paintings are and how I actually thrive there.
The most obvious, of course, it removes the many, many hours of work that is put into each one of my pieces.
In effect, is giving potential clients an unrealistic expectation of how long their painting should take.
I would love to hear your thoughts as a fellow artist or a potential client.
