“She Blossoms”
20″ x 24″ acrylic and mixed media
on repurposed canvas.
This piece is the last one I painted for this series and was a true labor of love, going through many formations. When I completed this piece, I knew this was the perfect one to finish up the collection.
For “She Blossoms”, I chose to recycle an old canvas which represents the old “self”, and using it as the foundation something new. In the same way, we also have times in our lives where we need to readjust, reroute or even start over completely.
My use of dirt, dried seed pods from a Crepe Myrtle and course clay represents the scars we each have. In contrast to these harsh textures, bright pastels, the sparkle of glass and the shimmer of iridescent brush strokes represent the beautiful things that result from our life lessons.
“She Blossoms” is about overcoming the things in life that leave deep scars. It is also about blossoming and embracing the newer version of ourselves. A newer version that is stronger, wiser and even more beautiful as a result.
